About Rattanakosin Horology
Rattanakosin Horology was founded in the early 2000s by Khun Wanchai Thepmongkol, a watchmaker who had trained under a Swiss-certified technician in Chiang Mai before returning to Bangkok to set up his own bench. The workshop's name honours the old city island district — a neighbourhood where craft and history have always sat close together.
Over the years, the workshop has developed a particular depth in mechanical horology: the cleaning and regulation of vintage Swiss movements, the sourcing of period parts, and the careful conservation of dials and cases that carry age with dignity. We are not a quick-service counter. We work from a single bench, and each watch receives undivided attention.
Our clients range from Bangkok professionals who wear a dress watch daily and want it running well, to families who have inherited pocket watches from grandparents and want to understand what they have before deciding on any work. We take the same care with both.
We do not offer same-day turnaround, and we would not want to. The work we do — disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning of components, re-lubrication to manufacturer specifications, multi-position regulation — takes the time it takes. What we offer in return is clear communication at each stage, a written record of findings and rates, and a service you can trust.

How We Work
Our Standards & Protocols
Ultrasonic & Manual Cleaning
Movement parts are cleaned both ultrasonically and by hand where the component requires it. We do not reuse lubricants or skip steps to reduce turnaround time.
Multi-Position Regulation
After reassembly, movements are regulated across at least five positions using a timing instrument. Results are recorded and compared against pre-service rates.
Manufacturer Lubrication Grades
We use lubrication grades specified for each movement type. Bridges, escapements, and keyless works each require different viscosities, and we follow those distinctions.
Water Resistance Testing
Where the case design supports it, we test resistance after resealing using a dry pressure check. Results are noted in the service record.
Client Consent at Every Stage
No repair proceeds without written or confirmed agreement from the owner. If our inspection changes the scope or cost, we pause and consult before continuing.
Service Documentation
Every service produces a written record: initial inspection notes, rate readings before and after, parts used, and any observations the owner should know for future reference.
Our Approach
Watchmaking in Bangkok — a Craft Worth Doing Carefully
Bangkok has no shortage of watch repair counters — inside shopping centres, at market stalls, along the tourist corridors of Sukhumvit. What is rarer is a workshop where the person behind the bench has spent years learning the internal logic of mechanical movements: how a lever escapement transmits power, why amplitude matters, what distinguishes a mainspring that still has service life from one that should be replaced.
Rattanakosin Horology occupies a specific position in that landscape. We are not trying to be the fastest or the cheapest. We are trying to be the workshop that a serious watch owner — or a person who has just discovered they own something interesting — can trust with a piece that matters to them.
Bangkok's horological history is longer than many people realise. The city has had skilled watchmakers since the late nineteenth century, when royal households maintained European timepieces and craftsmen were trained to service them. Our workshop sits in the oldest part of the city for a reason: the neighbourhood itself has a relationship with preservation and care that fits what we do.
Whether you bring us a running watch that has begun to drift, a family heirloom that has not ticked in years, or a crown that has become difficult to wind, we will look at it with the same attention and tell you honestly what we find. From there, the decision is yours — and we are in no hurry to rush it.
A Considered Next Step
We Would Be Glad to Look at Your Watch
An enquiry costs nothing. Tell us about the piece and what you have noticed, and we will respond with an honest, considered reply.
